We run a Try-A-Hive scheme where by you build a hive, have a colony of bees which you keep for the season, at the end of the season you pay for the hive or return it back to the association.

This is complemented by the  Practical sessions at our Apiary at Wandlebury extra experience can be gained at our Association meeting on the first Sunday of each month where we welcome any body including members, people thinking of starting and members of the public where we kit you up so that you can look into a bee hive

Those beginners taking advantage of the Try-A-Hive scheme are expected to attend as many training sessions as possible to ensure you are able to gain experience in handling bees and looking after them correctly.

Goodies / Opportunities

Labels
A new batch of labels with the CBKA logo have been printed. Black printing on gold as before. Still only £2 per 100 labels from John Witter or at meetings.

Lost your bees? - Starting Again?
If you’ve lost your bees and want to get going again, please contact a member of our Committee. As and when swarms become available you can then be notified. Meanwhile check the state of the hive parts. If the combs are old and black or are infested with wax moth then scrap them and buy and make up new ones. Please give the brood box, floor, and supers a scorching with a blow lamp or hot air gun to kill any nasties that might have been part of the cause of your colony’s downfall. Be ready to collect a swarm when you hear of one – have a cardboard box (or skep) and a sheet ready. With new combs you will need to feed the swarm a few days after you hive it.
